‘Police chase’ brothers face death charges
TWO brothers appeared in court yesterday over a car crash following an alleged police chase which left four dead, including a year-old boy.
Elliott Bower, 18, appeared before Sheffield magistrates charged with causing death by dangerous driving.
Handcuffed to a guard, he stood in the dock with his brother Declan, 23, who is charged with aggravated vehicle taking causing death.
Factory worker Adnan Ashraf Jarral, 35, died with his baby son Usman.
Miroslav Duna, 50, and his wife Vlasta Dunova, 41, also died at the scene and their daughter, Nikola Dunova, 22, was seriously injured.
Ms Dunova’s daughter, Livia Matova, three, is in a critical condition in hospital.
Usman’s mother, Tahreem Kroscenova, 32, was seriously hurt and is in a stable condition.
They were in a VW Touran people carrier which was in collision with a VW Golf in Darnall, Sheffield, at 8.50pm last Friday.
It is understood that the Golf was being followed by police just before the crash, which happened as it was overtaking a bus and the Touran was preparing to turn right.
Both brothers were remanded in custody to appear before Sheffield Crown Court on December 10.
The pair, both of whom had short, dark hair and beards, appeared in the glass-fronted dock for the five-minute hearing wearing grey T-shirts and tracksuit bottoms.
They were flanked by three uniformed security officers.
Elliott, who was said to have been driving the Golf, waved at friends and family in the public gallery and said, “Love you” as he was led away after being remanded in custody.
His brother appeared to have difficulty walking and his left wrist and hand were heavily bandaged.
The brothers spoke only to confirm their names, give their dates of birth and their home addresses in Sheffield.
Elliott Bower is charged with four counts of causing death by dangerous driving and three counts of causing serious injury by dangerous driving.
He is also accused of handling stolen goods and possessing cannabis.
Brother Declan Bower is charged with aggravated vehicle taking, causing death.
He is also charged with handling stolen goods, two counts of driving while disqualified and two counts of driving without insurance.
He is also accused of possessing a bladed article and possession of cannabis.
