Me I was bonkers jungle, says Harry

John, 51, said: “I am both excited and nervous now. I like a challenge, I like a competition and I might make some new friends.”

He added: “And I would be over the moon if I won.”

Two wild card contestants will join the series later.

But in a series of confessions from contestants, TV star Nick Knowles, 56, believes he is in with a shot of winning the coveted crown and denied he had agreed to appear because of the fee.

He said: “People don’t take on challenges because of how much they’re paid, do they?”

But singer James McVey is not looking forward to his stint. “It’s going to be very hard being away from my girlfriend,” he said. “It’s the longest we’ve ever gone without speaking.”

Emily Atack, 28, said she would miss food and her family – although she doesn’t have any real phobias.

And Fleur East, 31, admits she is terrified of everything in the jungle and wants to bring a sense of fun to the camp, while Anne Hegerty, 60, said her biggest phobia was spiders.

Sair Khan, 30, said she hoped to dispel the myth she is like her Coronation Street character and is ready to do all the chores and muck in.

Apart from not liking confined spaces, her real struggle, she said, will be food: “I eat all the time!” Actress Rita Simons, 41, said she was full of phobias and she planned to make people smile.

But she admitted: “I do think I am an easy person to live with, although I do have really horrendous snoring. It’s not fun for other people!”

And Malique Thompson-Dwyer, 20, said he was determined to be the entertainer and joker in the camp.

Saying he would miss his family, his phone and his bed, he added: “I am looking forward to people seeing me as me, rather than a character.”
