I said ‘I’ve got my wedding to go to, no terrorist will stop us’

“I’VE got my wedding to go to, I’ve got my dress, no terrorist is going to stop us,” said a woman in the Bataclan as the terrorists struck.

Justine Merton-Scott, 47, was with her now husband Tony Scott, 48, on a balcony looking down on the stage when the gunmen opened fire.

She said she remembered thinking of her wedding, which was planned for four months later, as they tried to escape.

“The wedding was one of the things I kept thinking when we were hiding. We have to make it out so we can get married,” she said.

“We heard the gunfire and Tony yelled ‘Get down’.” They crawled on their stomachs to a skylight where they got on to the roof. IT worker Tony then sent his ex-partner a message to tell his 11-year-old daughter: “I love you.” He said: “That was the point I thought ‘I’m going to die’.”

When police later rescued them they saw the bodies of concertgoers.

The couple cut short their trip to Paris, returned home to Leeds and went ahead with their wedding.

They have returned to Paris on the third anniversary to attend a memorial service at the Bataclan and complete the trip they planned in 2015.

Tony said: “When we got back from Paris the world was upside down. Life For Paris support group and other survivors helped us, so we’ve decided to go back this year.”
