Giggs fears horror may scar Kasper

- James Nursey

WALES manager Ryan Giggs fears Kasper Schmeichel could be scarred for life by the Leicester helicopter tragedy.

The Foxes keeper was the last player to see late club chairman Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha board his helicopter two weeks ago.

Schmeichel waved him off and then witnessed the fireball outside King Power Stadium after the devastating crash that claimed the lives of all five on board.

Schmeichel, 32, has returned to action with clean sheets in City’s 1-0 win at Cardiff and goalless draw at home to Burnley, and will be back in the Welsh capital with Denmark for Friday’s Nations League clash against Wales.

Giggs, who played with Kasper’s father Peter at Manchester United, said: “I’ve known Kasper since he was a baby. He showed what class he’s got but it’s affected him deeply. There was a lot of respect of the owner and it’s difficult.

“It’s horrendous what happened, for not only the Leicester players, but everyone in football. It’s affected everyone. It was emotional seeing the scenes at Cardiff the previous weekend.

“You don’t know how different players will react to it. Some will not forget about it but just go through it and then concentrate on the football. Others it could affect for a long time.”

Wales have their own links to the tragedy through midfielder Andy King. He is Leicester’s longest-serving player, and Giggs intends to talk to King to check he is in the right frame of mind to play.

“I know he will have been deeply affected,” added Giggs.
