November 25 The date earmarked for an emergency meeting of all EU leaders to sign off the deal.

Early December MPs could be given a so-called meaningful vote on the agreement. The Prime Minister will face a major battle to win enough support.

Mid-December If leaders fail to meet in November, a European

Council summit scheduled for December 13/14 is viewed as the last chance for the UK and EU to formally agree the deal.

January 21 If no final agreement has been reached a minister must make a statement to Parliament and MPs would debate the Government’s intended course of action soon after.

February/March If a deal has been secured,

MEPs are expected to have their say when the agreement goes before the European Parliament to be ratified.

March 29 Britain officially leaves the EU.

March 30 2018 The transition period kicks in while the talks on future trading relations continue.

December 31 2020 Transition period due to end.
