Arena bomb brother may face trial

- By Chris Riches

THE brother of the Manchester Arena bomber could be extradited to Britain by the new year to face the UK’s biggest ever mass murder trial.

Islamic State-inspired Salman Abedi, 22, killed 22 people and injured 800 with a suicide bomb after an Ariana Grande concert in May 2017.

Earlier this year anti-terror police said brother Hashem, 21, was their only living suspect but he is in Libya detained by militia.

Now Libyan PM Fayez al Sarraj has said Greater Manchester Police’s extradition warrant could be agreed by the end of the year.

Mr Al Sarraj told the BBC: “Sometimes it takes a long time. As a country we are following up, and working with the British Embassy.”

Both Abedi brothers travelled to Libya before Salman returned alone to carry out the attack. Hashem was arrested in the capital Tripoli the next day.

Police still have 100 investigators working full time on the atrocity in an investigation which has already cost £4million.
