Scudamore’s embarrassed
RICHARD Scudamore is understood to be surprised and embarrassed by a plan to give him a £5million send-off when he stands down as Premier League executive chairman next month.
The idea emerged on Tuesday, shortly before the league announced that television executive Susanna Dinnage would replace Scudamore, above, as chief executive.
The league have found themselves having to defend an idea they had been unaware of until it was reported in the media. Dinnage was chosen after a recruitment process led by the league’s nominations committee, chaired by Chelsea chairman Bruce Buck. Buck believes Scudamore deserves a farewell bonus after 20 years of negotiating the league’s inflationbusting broadcast deals and he has suggested each club contribute £250,000 to the pot. A decision could be taken at a Premier League meeting in London today. MANCHESTER CITY full-back Benjamin Mendy is facing more time on the sidelines after undergoing surgery on his left knee last night. The France international, 24, left, missed seven months of City’s title charge last season after rupturing the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee. City have been managing his latest condition – understood to be a cartilage problem.
BRIGHTON’S teenage sensation, Irish forward Aaron Connolly, 18, is wanted by a host of Championship clubs including Leeds, QPR and Millwall.
