Cliff’s crazy gravy hits all right notes
SIR Cliff Richard revealed his gravy recipe yesterday – and it’s a mindboggling concoction.
According to the 78-year-old pop star the trick is to use almost the entire contents of your kitchen cupboard.
“I put everything in whenever I make a gravy,” he explained to Chris Evans on his BBC Radio 2 breakfast show yesterday.
“I use all the stocks. Lamb stock, beef stock, vegetarian stock, chicken stock, all of it. Then I put in soy sauce, teriyaki sauce [soy sauce, honey, rice vinegar, sesame oil, brown sugar, sesame seeds, garlic and ginger] and Worcestershire sauce and I thicken it with special gravy powder. Wine goes into it too.” And that’s not all. The Summer Holiday star added: “And if I’m making it for about eight people I use three large onions that I fry up.” Sir Cliff says it’s is so good he often freezes a batch because his sister’s children love it so much.
The music veteran was celebrating release of Rise Up – his first album of original material in 14 years.
Sir Cliff said he finally feels he’s shaken off the fallout from a highly publicised police raid on his home.
The Living Doll singer has previously told how the trauma of BBC coverage of the police search of his Berkshire home in 2014, following a claim of historical sexual assault, had left him emotionally drained. Sir Cliff, who strongly denied all allegations, was not arrested and charges were never brought.
He said: “I think most people know that what I have been through has been pretty traumatic.”
He added: “I finally feel that I came out of that mud… I’m here again.”
Sir Cliff successfully sued the BBC over the coverage.
