Noel’s meal-or-no-meal ordeal

- By Julia Hunt

NOEL Edmonds joked “the nation hates us” as he and Nick Knowles were picked for the latest Bushtucker Trial on I’m A Celebrity...Get Me Out Of Here! last night.

The pair were picked for the Catch A Falling Star challenge, in which they were covered in thousands of cockroaches, mealworms and crickets.

They had to lie on their backs in a double-decked cage suspended 65 feet above a lake, with Edmonds on top and Knowles beneath.

A worried Edmonds said: “You have combined my two greatest fears – heights and confined spaces,” while Knowles joked of his own fears: “One is heights and the other is working with Noel Edmonds!”

When their time started, Deal Or No Deal host Edmonds was forced to rummage in holes full of creatures including green ants and scorpions in a search for star-shaped tokens, which he then had to drop down to Knowles. Before they set off, 30,000 cockroaches, 30,000 mealworms and 25,000 crickets were dropped on them.

As the trial got under way, Edmonds managed to secure some of the star tokens – exchanged later for food for the hungry campers – but the Who Dares Wins presenter struggled to catch them from him. When time ran out, the pair had won five stars, leaving Knowles frustrated.

He said: “I’m angry with myself that I was close enough that I felt them touch my forearm or my hand, the ones that I dropped.” Edmonds joked: “Don’t beat yourself up. Yes, you dropped six which, frankly, was very disappointing...”

Holly Willoughby congratulated them with a kiss on the cheek as they finished.

Co-host Declan Donnelly asked: “Are you canoodling with the campmates?”
