Hearing Aids Taught Me To Love Life Again

-

WHEN his own hearing began to fail Professor Harold Ellis knew how to weigh up the medical evidence and decided to act! Having put off retirement the former surgeon was still teaching anatomy saying: “I wanted to stay active as long as I could.”

But, a few years ago, he began noticing that his hearing was deteriorating.

He explains: “I began to find it difficult to pick up questions from the back of the hall when I was lecturing, I just couldn’t make out what they were saying.”

The professor was also struggling to hear his wife Wendy at home.

He adds: “We’d be in the kitchen and she’d accuse me of ignoring her, when actually I had no idea that she was telling me something!”

Socialising had become tricky too: “If there was a lot of background noise I’d find it hard to pick up the conversation.

“I’ve seen hearing loss so many times in patients, family and friends that I knew what a social disability it could be if left unaddressed.”

Spotting a clinic of Amplifon on his way home from work one day he made an appointment and was instantly impressed with the level of service. He says: “I was put at ease the minute I walked through the door.”

At the next appointment, after trying his hearing aids, Professor Ellis noticed an immediate benefit.

He recalls: “I could hear my wife, watch TV more comfortably and no longer struggled with phone calls.”

His social and work life have also been transformed.

The professor explains: “My hearing aids help me engage with others in my lecturing work and to communicate well with my family.”

Thanks to Amplifon’s range of advance technology his aids are wonderfully discrete too. He laughs: “They’re almost invisible!”

The Professor was impressed with the level of aftercare from Amplifon too saying: “Nothing’s too much trouble.”

Now he’s recommending that others with hearing problems go and see Amplifon’s experts.

He adds: “Hearing loss can creep up on you. Wearing hearing aids has made a huge difference to me - life just wouldn’t be the same without them!”
