ACTRESS Rosamund Pike kicked off the awards season in style yesterday, with a best actress Golden Globe nomination.

The 39-year-old, among a raft of UK talent receiving Golden Globe nods, landed hers in the drama category for her upcoming film A Private War, in which she plays war correspondent Marie Colvin.

Rosamund, featured on the cover of Marie Claire’s January edition, told the magazine she has “always felt lucky to be working at what I love doing”.

But she will find stiff competition at the Golden Globes ceremony in

Los Angeles on January 6, in the form of Oscar winners Glenn Close for The Wife and Nicole Kidman for Destroyer.

Pop star Lady Gaga has also received a nomination for her big screen debut in A Star Is Born.

British stars Olivia Colman and Emily Blunt will compete in the best actress in a comedy or musical category for their respective parts in The Favourite and Mary Poppins Returns.

Meanwhile, Claire Foy (First Man) takes on Rachel Weisz (The Favourite) in the supporting actress category.

Christian Bale has a best actor in a comedy or musical nod for playing Dick Cheney in biopic Vice and Benedict Cumberbatch and Hugh Grant are in the running for the best actor in a limited series or TV movie category.

Benedict is nominated for Sky Atlantic series Patrick Melrose, while Hugh was recognised for playing Jeremy Thorpe in the BBC drama A Very English Scandal.

Hugh’s co-star Ben Whishaw was also nominated in the supporting category for his role in the drama, which is in the running for best TV limited series or TV movie.

Bodyguard is nominated for best TV drama, competing against fellow BBC series Killing Eve.

Bodyguard’s leading man Richard Madden also has a best actor in a TV drama nomination, alongside Matthew Rhys, the Welsh star of The Americans.

An “utterly astonished and stunned” Richard E Grant is up for best actor in a motion picture supporting role for comedy drama Can You Ever Forgive Me? Killing Eve, which stars Sandra Oh as an MI5 agent pursuing assassin Jodie Comer, is nominated for two prizes.

Sandra, hosting the awards alongside actor Andy Samberg, is up for best performance by an actress in a TV series (drama), while the show itself is competing for best TV series (drama), against Bodyguard.

Killing Eve executive producer Sally Woodward Gentle said: “It is a team effort between an exceptional cast and a world class crew.”
