IS THAT REALLY YOU, HUW?

- By News Reporter

BBC news anchor Huw Edwards can help himself to an extra mince pie or two this Christmas without a twinge of guilt thanks to his impressive three stone weight loss.

The Welsh journalist, 57, took up boxing in his bid to beat the bulge and his new slimline figure and chiselled cheekbones have seen him attract a new legion of adoring fans.

He displayed his lean physique in a jolly red jumper alongside Queen of Baking Mary Berry, Poldark star Eleanor Tomlinson, Olympian Dina Asher-Smith and comedian Joe Lycett.

Former Bake Off judge Mary, 83, invited the four to join her in her kitchen to help create a fabulous festive feast for her Christmas Party, which airs on BBC1 on December 17 at 8.30pm. Despite claims he “never cooks”, Mary will put Huw’s culinary skills to the test as they prepare some of her mouth-watering Yuletide recipes including crispy salmon and dill filo parcels, chicken and mushroom suet pie and a hazelnut meringue roulade with white chocolate and clementines.

Huw wowed viewers back in May when he presented the Beeb’s coverage of Meghan and Harry’s Royal Wedding, and debuted his inspiring transformation. The familiar portly figure with middleaged spread and double chin had been replaced with a newly defined jawbone and a trim figure.

His athletic look was enhanced by a glowing tan and crowning glory of coiffed silver hair.

It emerged that Huw, who is married to TV producer Vicky Flind, had lost three stone after submitting himself to a boxingcentred fitness regime under the supervision of former pro Clinton McKenzie.

He has said of his fitness drive: “I don’t have any beauty secrets but I have taken up boxing. I’ve always battled with my weight until I found boxing. Now I do three sessions a week and feel great.”

Huw, who was 16 stone before his makeover, says: “I feel better than I have for years and it’s great getting so many compliments.”
