HERE’S SOME TV YULE HAVE SEEN BEFORE

- By News Reporter

MILLIONS of families will be getting a familiar feeling as they crowd around their sets to watch re-runs of classic shows on the BBC this Christmas.

A fifth of BBC One’s shows will be a repeat – including popular hits like The Royle Family and The Vicar Of Dibley.

The channel is set to show five films on Christmas Eve – which will at least eat up scheduling time. BBC2 is not holding back either and will also show five films on Christmas Day. People online were quick to slam the amount of repeats, with some saying the decisions was “disgraceful”.

Mike Eve said: “BBC Christmas schedule 73 per cent repeats. Why do we pay licence fee, you should be ashamed.”

Another added: “What the heck am I paying you all this money for each year, disgraceful” The BBC’s director of content, Charlotte Moore, said she is still “really excited” about the festive offerings, but one insider labelled it “unimaginative”. On Boxing Day, just four of 22 shows will be new — and that includes football results show Final Score and a University Challenge programme. A TV source said: “It’s not innovative scheduling, given the BBC’s insistence on how much new content it makes and the cost to licence fee payers.”

Meanwhile, on ITV just under 50 per cent of their shows will have aired before.
