Meghan’s too nice says chum Serena
THE Queen will wear a paper crown during Christmas dinner, according to former royal butler Paul Burrell.
He claimed the monarch loved to “join the fun” and will not think twice about donning a paper hat from a Christmas cracker as she tucks into turkey and stuffing.
She will also enjoy a festive tipple of her favourite drink, gin and Dubonnet. But one thing she will not do is watch her own Christmas Day speech on the television.
Instead she will nip outside to walk her corgis while other family members tune in to the annual TV message.
Burrell, 60, who was a footman to the Queen before becoming Princess Diana’s butler, said the royal Christmas dinner was like an episode of Downton Abbey.
He told Cheshire Life magazine: “The Queen loves to decorate the tree. The bottom half of the tree is left bare so that the Queen can decorate it with her grandchildren.
“She loves a dry Martini but her preferred tipple is gin and Dubonnet.
“Menus are printed for each meal, which appear in French on the table, and the Queen decides where everyone sits by using a leather board with a window for each place setting into THE Duchess of Sussex may have had a rift within the Royal Household over claims she is too demanding but in fact she is too nice, according to her friend Serena Williams.
Tennis star Serena attended Meghan’s wedding and said the American actress, who is due to give birth to her first child in the spring, should put herself first.
The 37-year-old former world number one, who has a one-year-old daughter, told People magazine that she has given Meghan advice.
She said: “I’m like, ‘How are you?’ and she’s like, ‘No, how are you?’ and I’m like, ‘You’re so sweet, but I’m really asking – how are YOU?’”
The tennis star added: “I’m like, ‘Meghan, stop being so nice…you’re the pregnant one, aren’t you supposed to have hormones, why are you so sweet?’ But that’s always been her.” She and Meghan, also 37, became friends after meeting in 2010 and they appeared together in a game of celebrity beach bowl at the 2014 Super Bowl in East Rutherford, New Jersey.
Last summer Meghan joined her sister-in-law the Duchess of Cambridge at Wimbledon to cheer on her friend.
And on the second day of her tour of Australia with Harry in October, Meghan wore a blazer from Serena’s clothing line.
In an interview before Serena gave birth to daughter Alexis, Meghan said. “She’ll be an amazing mom, the very best, because she is so attuned to balancing strength and sensitivity.
“Plus given that she is pretty epic at karaoke, I think she’ll put her signature Serena spin on singing lullabies.”
