Brexit ‘will hit young workers’

-

HALF of employers believe Brexit will hit the economic prospects of young people, according to a new report.

Research by the Young Women’s Trust among over 800 managers suggested that only a third reckoned leaving the EU will benefit 18 to 30-year-olds. One in four of those surveyed said that they expected to employ fewer young people in three years’ time.

Young Women’s Trust chief executive Carole Easton said: “Employers and young people alike tell us they are worried about young people’s prospects post-Brexit.

“Young people, especially young women, are already struggling with low pay and increasing prices. We are finding that they are increasingly relying on food banks and falling into debt and the worry is that this could get worse unless the Government acts now.

“This means giving them the right skills and support to find jobs.”
