STERLING: IT’S WHAT I EXPECT

-

RAHEEM STERLING feels sections of the media have “fuelled racism” as Chelsea and the Metropolitan police continue their investigations into an incident during Manchester City’s 2-0 defeat at Stamford Bridge.

Footage appeared to show a Chelsea fan hurling racist abuse at Sterling as he retrieved the ball from behind the goal in front of the Matthew Harding Stand just before half-time.

Sterling’s reaction suggested he heard the insult and yesterday he posted a statement Anfield. We should call Anfield because they have to help us.”

Mo Salah’s hat-trick at Bournemouth on Saturday sent Liverpool to the Premier League summit and they are now the only unbeaten side in the top flight.

But Klopp warned his men they will have to raise their game even further if they want to progress to the knockout stages of European football’s elite competition.

“We have to earn it,” he said. “In the home games so far we were quite impressive. This is our last one and I don’t feel Napoli think, ‘It’s only Liverpool’, so they know as well it will be a tough one. But they are strong and we need to be strong.”
