DOES A LITTLE BIT OF WHAT YOU FANCY REALLY DO YOU GOOD?

-

Yes

IT made my heart sing to read the story of centenarian Arthur Grisbrook who cooks himself a mixed grill every day and washes it down with some wine (“Daily mixed grills and red wine helped me live to 100”, December 7).

This gent is a credit to himself and his family – and Arthur’s dinner looked wonderful in the photograph.

Too often the nanny state tells us what we can and cannot do. We’re told to eat more of this, less of that and not to touch the other with a bargepole.

Arthur is living proof that you can have what you like in moderation.

No

WE’VE all heard apocryphal tales of someone’s grandparent who smoked 100 unfiltered Capstan cigarettes a day and lived to a ripe old age.

But on the flipside we hear a lot more about overweight and inactive people in their 50s and 60s dying of heart failure. Good luck to Arthur Grisbrook, he looks great on his diet of mixed grills and red wine.

Arthur is a happy soul and I wish him many more years of good health.

But he is clever not to overdo it and is very careful not to eat or drink to excess.
