Teen driver who killed 4 told: You will be punished

- By Dave Higgens

A TEENAGER who killed four people, including a toddler, in a car crash while trying to outrun police was warned by a judge yesterday: “Make no mistake, you will be punished.”

Elliott Bower, 18, was being pursued by officers when he crashed into a people carrier in the Darnall area of Sheffield last month.

Adnan Ashraf Jarral, 35, died with his son, 16-month-old Muhammed Usman Bin Adnan, and a married couple – Vlasta Dunova, 41, and Miroslav Duna, 50.

Bower yesterday pleaded guilty to death by dangerous driving and other offences at Sheffield Crown Court.

He appeared with his brother Declan Bower, 23, and a 17-year-old boy, who each admitted offences including aggravated vehicle taking. Remanding the trio, Judge Jeremy Richardson said: “This is an exceptionally serious case of its kind. Make no mistake, you will be punished.”

All three will be sentenced on January 28. The 17-year-old cannot be named due to legal reasons.

South Yorkshire Police had asked for public help in finding the Bower brothers, of Sheffield, over a number of offences. They had responded with Facebook taunts.

Factory worker Mr Jarral is understood to have been driving the VW people carrier on November 9. His family said he was “full of life” and a devoted father. The Independent Office for Police Conduct is investigating due to the pursuit by officers.
