Guests can sleep easy
THEY say that Christmas is a time for sharing and if you’ve got family or friends staying over the festive period now is a good time to think about where they will sleep. A pre-Christmas declutter of your spare/junk/office room will make guests feel welcome and for tips on getting into the right frame of mind for this as well as practical advice see Debora Robertson’s new book Declutter (kylebooks.co.uk).
Most of us use guest beds as giant shelves but once you’ve cleared them have a lie down, not for a rest but to check whether it’s comfortable.
Helen Johnson from The Fine Bedding Company says: “A new mattress enhancer or topper is a great investment; much cheaper than replacing the entire mattress but highly effective in delivering a new bed feel.”
Smart
Machine-washable toppers can be cleaned before guests arrive and Johnson adds: “Washing duvets and pillows can be a way of freshening a whole bed.”
The Fine Bedding Company’s Smartdown range of pillows and duvets are fully washable and hypoallergenic, so there are fewer issues with allergies.
Storing bedding away in a smart blanket box will also reduce their exposure to dust and help keep the room tidy.
Other quick fixes could include a new rug, bedside lamp or even wallpaper.
“Adding a feature wall is an affordable and an easy update that will certainly deliver a boutique hotel feel,” says Alex Whitecroft from Iwantwallpaper.co.uk.
And if you don’t have a room to offer guests consider a basket of essentials next to the sofa with toiletries, clean towels – and the wifi code.
