We’re trying to entertain not fix world, Cheryl tells her critics

- By Craig Simpson

CHERYL has urged viewers of her new TV talent show to cut the criticism and enjoy the entertainment instead.

The former Girls Aloud singer said performers who left themselves open to criticism from the public or TV judges were trying to entertain, not change the world.

Speaking ahead of her new BBC One talent show, The Greatest Dancer, Cheryl said she does not care about the “noise” surrounding top talent, and focuses on the performers’ passion for entertaining the audience.

Cheryl, 35, who has endured criticism for recent TV appearances, said: “It makes me sad that we really put a lot of focus on to criticism. Just enjoy.

“It’s entertainment, we’re not trying to revolutionise the world. People are just trying to entertain you for an hour with their talent, with their skill, with their passion.

“I’m just looking forward to watching people shine for an hour. I don’t care what noise is happening.”

Cheryl is a dance captain on the show, alongside Strictly Come Dancing’s Oti Mabuse and Broadway star Matthew Morrison. The hosts are Jordan Banjo and Alesha Dixon.

Cheryl has a mentoring role but will not vote – the audience alone decides which acts stay.

Episode one of the show will see various acts audition, including a solo dancer, Ellie.

The TV talent show is the first partnership between Simon Cowell’s Syco company and the BBC.

The first episode of The Greatest Dancer is on Saturday at 8pm. Best foot skyward...dancer Ellie on show
