is fast food solely to blame for diabetes crisis?

-

Yes

THE picture painted by your article sadly isn’t exclusive to east London (“Junk food shops fuelling diabetes crisis, warns GP”, January 11).

Indeed there are long stretches of road in my home town where every other shop is a fried chicken outlet.

I always wonder how they stay afloat with so much competition but they always seem to be busy.

Councils need to take responsibility and limit the amount of businesses that can pump out this unhealthy fodder.

Until then, the NHS will remain under strain.

No

WHILE it’s sad that there is a diabetes epidemic in Britain at the moment, to blame it just on fast food is too simplistic.

I think the cost of eating well must be factored into the equation too.

Depressingly, it is far cheaper for a family of four or more to buy a bargain bucket from a fried chicken joint than it is to buy chicken breasts, vegetables and potatoes.

If you were on a limited budget you wouldn’t think twice if the bucket made your money go further.

Healthy eating should be for all, not just those who can afford it.
