Stone thrown into Test mix

- DEAN WILSON

OLLY STONE is ready to overtake his county team-mate Chris Woakes to claim a Test spot in the West Indies.

The Warwickshire man, nicknamed ‘Enzo’ after Ashley Giles called him the ‘Ferrari’ of fast bowlers owing to his extreme pace and unpredictability, could get the chance to add a Test shirt to the ODI one he picked up in Sri Lanka.

Stone has been training in Perth in between the tours. During that time Giles, his former boss at Warwickshire, has become England’s director of cricket.

“A Test shirt to go with the framed ODI one would be amazing,” said Stone, 25, after the squad’s first training session in Barbados. “I’d loved to have played in Sri Lanka but the team did so well and I learnt a lot. This time if I get my chance I can show what I can do and what I picked up. “I learnt a lot from senior players so it is hard to come away from the Sri Lanka tour without improving, but I’m just looking for that chance. “It is great having Ashley on board. He’ll do a great job.” England face the CWI President’s XI in their opening tour match at the Three Ws Oval tomorrow.
