MADONNA: The Immaculate Collection (Sire/Warner)

This was one of the first albums I had as a child. Madonna was THE female artist at the time, the trailblazer, and these songs are absolute classics that I heard on the radio growing up. My entire family loved them.

MICHAEL JACKSON: Bad

(Sony)

I still remember listening to this over and over on tape. Every kid at that time thought Jackson was cool and wanted to be him. He was my other childhood pop idol.

LAURYN HILL: The Miseducation Of Lauryn Hill (Ruffhouse/Columbia)

This was so different to everything we’d previously been fed in hip hop. A woman with a gorgeous voice who could rap and was socially conscious.

Hers was one of the first concerts I went to. I went with my university friends and I spent two hours with a massive grin on my face. Last year, we reunited for the 20th anniversary and saw her again.

MICHAEL BUBLÉ: Christmas (Warner)

Christmas is my favourite time of year and, whenever I decorate the tree, it’s mince pies, mulled wine and Michael Bublé. Nobody else can make a song as warm as he can. Of course I sing along – in my onesie.

STEVIE WONDER: Hotter Than July (Universal/Island) Listening to people like Lauryn Hill got me interested in Stevie because modern music borrowed very heavily from people like him. I fell in love with his voice. Lately is my go-to karaoke song. I auditioned with it for a choir, The Adam Street Singers, and got in.

ORIGINAL MOTION PICTURE SOUNDTRACK: The Greatest Showman

(Atlantic)

A very moving film and the message about being individual in the face of adversity is really relevant. I will never tire of it.

Songs such as This Is Me are hugely empowering. I’ve been on many a night out when that has been on and the crowd has erupted. I sang Never Enough at a charity fundraiser.
