Macca gets back to his roots

( Macca ditches hair colouring and goes for silver fox look)

- By Frances Millar

SINCE taking the plunge and ditching the hair dye last year Sir Paul McCartney’s mop-top is now a bright silvery white.

The Beatles legend, 76, stepped out in New York this week with a shock of grey hair standing straight up in the freezing cold wind.

For many years Sir Paul fought off the telltale sign of ageing by colouring his hair a rich chestnut brown, but now he has decided to embrace the natural look.

Last September he appeared on US TV with salt’n’pepper locks, below, that revealed hints of grey for the first time.

Fans commended him for his new look saying he “should have done it years ago” and that he looked like a “stunning silver fox”.

When Paul, John Lennon, Ringo Starr and George Harrison first found success in the 1960s they were almost as famous for their mop-top hair cuts as they were for their early hits.

But by the time they released Sgt Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club

Band in 1967 the Fab Four each had their own individual hippy style.

Sir Paul’s not the only celebrity to let Mother Nature take her course. Former football star David Beckham, 43, was recently seen sporting a silvery do. After a momentous 2018 which saw Sir Paul release his 17th solo album Egypt Station and embark on an international tour which included a homecoming gig in Liverpool last month – this year promises to be just as busy with an upcoming tour of South and North America and the release of his first children’s book Hey Grandude!

The picture book about a magical old man and his four grandchildren, was inspired by his family. Explaining the title, he said: “I’ve got eight grandchildren and they’re all beautiful and one day one of them said to me ‘Hey Grandude!’. I said ‘What?’ and I thought, I kind of like that, so from then on I was kind of known as Grandude.”
