Luxurious

She claimed Mr Kooter gave her the bulk of the money to support their “expensive, luxurious lifestyle”. She also said some of it was spent on bitcoin mining machines for Mr Kooter.

But Judge John Cavanagh QC said her explanations still left a missing £82,000 for which “no explanation was forthcoming”. He ruled on Friday that she must pay the money back.

The court heard the couple went on skiing trips and hotel breaks and Mr Kooter spent thousands on gifts.

Michael Collard, for Ms Radeva, argued: “This was a relationship with lots of kisses. It was not a professional relationship. Whether the money was paid is not the important point, the question is what was it for?

“They were clearly living an expensive luxurious lifestyle and there was lots of money being spent.”

Neil Vickery, for Mr Kooter, said: “It is quite clear the money he was paying her was an investment. She described herself as a capital investment manager on Tinder and in emails.”

She claimed not to have led Mr Kooter to believe she was an investment manager.

But the judge said a screenshot of her Tinder profile from February 2017 said “she was employed by Citibank”.

She also signed off emails “Manuela Radeva, Capital Investment Manager”, he said. In one email, Mr Kooter wrote: “Just putting a large amount of money into your bank account – seems a bit reckless.”

She replied: “Don’t worry about this – you can trust me completely.”

The judge continued: “It is highly implausible he was giving her this money for any other reason than that she should invest it for him.

“He admits he was naive and says he was blinded by attraction.”

The judge ordered Ms Radeva to pay £182,050 plus £3,641 in interest and £20,000 in legal costs. He refused Mr Kooter’s request for 36,000 euros he claimed to have lent Ms Radeva.
