Secret to a happy home is crystal clear

A big hit with A-listers, semi-precious stones have never been more popular. Here, JULIETTE THORNBURY explains how to use them to transform your living space

-

CRYSTAL therapy has never been more popular, with celebs including Victoria Beckham and Adele saying they carry semi-precious stones around with them to keep them happy and healthy.

However, you can also harness the power of crystals in your home. In fact, keeping crystals in different areas of your house is a wonderful way to attract positive energy into your space.

Placing the right stones around your home will create a happy, warm and inviting atmosphere for everyone to enjoy.

Here, we explain which crystals work best in each room.

HALLWAY

The entrance and hallway to your home should carry a safe, warm and welcoming energy. You want your hallway to reflect your personality and the atmosphere of the whole home. It’s important to welcome visitors into your space with a warm and friendly vibe.

KEY STONES: Black tourmaline; obsidian; citrine; selenite

Black tourmaline and obsidian are powerful stones that will keep this area free from negativity. Place them above your front door as a symbol of protection and comfort.

Citrine attracts warmth and happiness. Keep it in the hallway where it will attract positivity and abundance. Place selenite on the windowsills and in doorways to create a barrier against negative energy, while attracting light and positivity into the atmosphere.

KITCHEN

Often seen as the heart of the home, the kitchen is a social area where friends and family come together to share food and talk. Kitchens often have multiple uses, from being somewhere for children to do homework to a space for families to watch television, as well as cooking, eating and drinking.

For this social hub, you want to create a nurturing energy of love, health and friendship.

Crystals that promote open communication and loving relationships are particularly powerful in this area of the home.

KEY STONES: Clear quartz; rose quartz; aventurine; jade

Green aventurine encourages feelings of happiness, peace and wellness. Placing some in a jug of water to drink over the day is a great way to feel the stones’ healing energy. Keeping rose quartz on a windowsill and jade among fresh herbs will promote a healthy, nurturing environment.

LIVING ROOM

Your living room should be a space of warmth and relaxation. Crystals here can be used to encourage conversation and congeniality.

This is a great area of the house to combine crystals with houseplants to promote harmony and balance, while amplifying the energies of growth and renewal.

KEY STONES: Aventurine; rose quartz; clear quartz; amethyst

Clear quartz is a powerful cleansing crystal and will keep your living room free of negativity. A clear quartz cluster kept near the centre of the room will radiate positivity. Aventurine is an excellent stone for building healthy relationships, while amethyst and rose quartz will encourage a peaceful and harmonious atmosphere. Place these stones on a shelf or side table to support open communication, harmony and happiness in the home.

BEDROOM

This should be a private sanctuary for rest and relaxation. Crystals can help encourage deep sleep, particularly those with a calming vibration. A couple of well-placed crystals will be more effective than having too many, as this may cause conflicting energies.

Used in this way, crystals are effective in promoting peace and tranquillity, which creates a warm and relaxing atmosphere.

KEY STONES: Angelite; howlite; amethyst; celestite; moonstone; jade Calming stones such as amethyst, angelite and howlite are examples of crystals that can be kept in the bedroom to create balance.

Place a howlite sphere next to your bed to bring a light and peaceful energy to the room.

To help with insomnia, place angelite, howlite or moonstone under your pillow and if you want to encourage lucid dreaming, try jade and amethyst.

BATHROOM

The bathroom should be an area for rejuvenation, cleansing and recharging. Crystals can work with your favourite candles or a room diffuser to create a beautiful cleansing and purifying energy.

KEY STONES: Blue lace agate; shungite; jade; rose quartz; amethyst Blue lace agate is a waterenergising stone that carries a soothing and cleansing energy, so keep near your bath or shower.

Add a few drops of lavender oil and some amethyst crystals to bath water for an effective way to relieve stress.

Shungite is one of the most powerful stones to purify water and detoxify the body. Place in a bath to benefit from its potent rejuvenating qualities.

HOME OFFICE

Your home office or work space should carry an energy of inspiration and motivation. Crystals can be used to boost energy levels and creativity, while also helping to create a stress-free environment.

KEY STONES: Citrine; fluorite; smoky quartz; turquoise; tiger’s eye

Citrine is known as the crystal of abundance, wealth and success, making it a powerful stone to keep in your office.

Placing fluorite in a dish near your computer will enhance productivity, focus and organisation and can be a powerful aid if you are studying.

Placing smoky quartz on your desk will help absorb negative energy from your environment while promoting stability, focus and mental clarity.

If you are nervous about an important meeting or work situation, carrying tiger’s eye can give you a boost of self-confidence and courage, as well as increasing energy levels and motivation.
