Mum’s the word as Meghan flies to US for her baby shower
THE Duchess of Sussex has flown to New York for a fiveday break that is expected to include her baby shower at an Upper East Side hotel today.
Meghan, 37, who is due to give birth to her first child at the end of April, is understood to have flown from London to the Big Apple on Friday.
She was spotted out eating with her stylist friend Jessica Mulroney in Lower Manhattan the following day.
Around 15 friends are expected to attend Meghan’s baby shower. Ms Mulroney is said to be organising the party, an American tradition in which female friends celebrate an upcoming birth by bringing gifts for the baby.
It is likely to be Meghan’s second to last chance to fly before her baby arrives.
This Saturday she will join her husband Prince Harry on a flight to Morocco to undertake a three-day visit to the North African country at the request of the British Government.
Harry, 34, has not accompanied his wife to New York. He has official duties in Britain over the next few days.
The US trip comes as officials at Kensington Palace continue to discuss splitting more staff between the Sussexes and the Cambridges in preparation for the day when Prince Charles becomes King and the Duke of Cambridge assumes the role of Prince of Wales.
William, 36, is expected to get the lion’s share of resources, although sources have said the total amount of money to be spent on supporting the official work of the two couples is unlikely to change. They are mainly funded by the profits from Charles’s Duchy of Cornwall estate.
However, aides have insisted that for the moment the two couples will continue to share some staff.
Harry and Meghan are due to move from their two-bedroom cottage at Kensington Palace to five-bedroom Frogmore Cottage at Windsor next month but their office will remain in Kensington Palace.
