Trump: Sacked FBI chief is ‘deranged’
DONALD Trump yesterday called former FBI director Andrew McCabe “deranged” for claiming senior US officials had once discussed ousting the president.
In Sunday’s 60 Minutes TV programme, McCabe raised allegations against Trump and said talks had been held about invoking a clause that can remove a president deemed unfit.
President Trump fired back, tweeting: “Wow, so many lies by now disgraced acting FBI director Andrew McCabe. He was fired for lying and now his story gets even more deranged.”
He also accused McCabe of “planning a very illegal act”. In the TV interview, McCabe also claimed Trump had expressed disbelief in North Korea’s ability to fire a missile at the US, citing Vladimir Putin’s assurance that it was impossible.
He said: “Intelligence officials responded that this was not consistent with the intelligence our government possesses, to which the President replied, ‘I don’t care. I believe Putin’.”
Responding to McCabe’s interview, the White House said he “was fired in disgrace from the FBI for lying” and that “everyone knows he has no credibility”.
