McIlroy magic

-

RORY McILROY started with an eagle and holed out from a bunker on the 16th, but the Genesis Open crown ultimately went to JB Holmes.

On a dramatic day in California, McIlroy finished tied for fourth after briefly moving into second place.

Victory went to Holmes, who rallied from a four-shot deficit at the weather-hit tournament.

The bearded American claimed his fifth PGA Tour title after a one-under-par 70 gave him a 14-under total of 270.

Holmes’ compatriot Justin Thomas, who led for most of the event, had to settle for second spot after sliding to a 75 for 271.

Northern Irishman McIlroy ended on 273 following his 69.

Tiger Woods was tied for 15th after carding a 72, while English pair Paul Casey and Tommy Fleetwood were equal 25th and 28th respectively.
