Morris led me merry

OLIVER GILDART has held his hands up over the nightmare that cost Wigan a chance of glory.

The 22-year-old England centre gifted Sydney Roosters a dream start in Sunday’s World Club Challenge.

He was swatted off twice for Brett Morris’s fourth-minute try and was also partly at fault in the Australian star’s next two first-half tries.

Those setbacks proved too much for Wigan to overcome and Gildart admitted he felt horrendous about the 20-8 defeat.

“I am gutted,” he said. “I am so disappoint­ed because there were a couple of soft tries on my edge.

“One of them was my fault and a few others look like it is my fault, but it could have been four or five of us.” Gildart said Wigan were aware their right side would be targeted by the NRL champions but failed to heed the danger.

“I knew it was their go-to attacking edge,” he said. “They got our middle tied up and left me in a bit of space to defend. But I have to do better than that. I am disappoint­ed in myself but I will learn from this and come back stronger.
