It would be mad if Tories joined Magnificent Seven

-

LABOUR is in crisis – that is not in dispute. Sunk into a cesspit of its own making, in particular due to Jeremy Corbyn’s total and repulsive failure to deal with anti-Semitism within his party’s ranks, it is utterly unfit for government and we salute the seven MPs who made a stand against this horror.

But Tory MPs should not be tempted to join this new endeavour.

The public was already showing strong signs of disgust at what was happening within Labour and, on top of that, it is well known that the electorate does not like fractured parties. This current Labour mess is a gift for the Conservative Party. It would be madness for Tory MPs to cause a split within their own ranks.

The received wisdom at the moment is that the two main parties are going to regroup not as Left and Right but as pro- or anti-EU. We are not so sure.

Brexit is certainly dominating the political debate at the moment and will continue to do so but in the longer term it looks likely that the Conservatives, for so much of their history a formidable award-winning machine, will recover once more.

As for Labour, no decent person could wish them to endure as long as their current set-up exists. Labour has betrayed its traditional supporters, the working classes, by turning itself into a vile hotchpotch of racism and Marxism.

We hope sanity prevails, although there is no sign of it yet.
