Don’t write us off now says defiant Gini

GINI WIJNALDUM has denied Liverpool are now underdogs to reach the quarter-finals of the Champions League.

The Reds were held to a goalless draw at Anfield by Bayern Munich on Tuesday and now have it all to do in the second leg in Germany in three weeks.

“Is it a better result for them – why?” said Liverpool’s Dutch midfielder. “It is a good result for both teams.

“If we go there and score a goal, they have to score two. One of the advantages for us is that they will be at home.

“A lot of teams when they come to Anfield, play for a draw and think it is a good result.

“I don’t think it is a bad result for Byern. But neither is it for us.”

Next up is Sunday’s Premier League clash at Manchester United and Wijnaldum has warned his team-mates to be prepared.

Liverpool’s 3-1 win over their bitter rivals in December was the final straw for Jose Mourinho as United manager.

But since Ole Gunnar Solskjaer took interim charge, United have won eight out of their nine games in the league to move up to fourth as well as dumping Arsenal and Chelsea out of the FA Cup. Solskjaer’s side would love nothing more than to stop Jurgen Klopp’s men from going back to the top of the table.

Wijnaldum said: “It is going to be a real big change. Since the new manager came in there is a new flow to United.

“They have played good games and have won a lot and that is building confidence in the team.

“It’s also a home game for them so they will have a lot of confidence as they don’t have the problems they had before.

“It’s going to be difficult but I’m looking forward to it.”

Liverpool defender Andy Robertson said: “It’s a huge game and they’re a different team. We need to be wary of them but they need to be wary of us.

“You look at their teamsheet or squad list and it’s full of stars that came to the party and they have a fantastic team.

“They’ve got people back from injury as well.

“We need to stop their dangermen but hopefully we’ve got enough to cause them problems as well to get the result that we need.”
