More police on streets is only way to end epidemic

-

MANY people raised in stable families who have never fought cannot understand that violence is learnt, although in some it is in their character (“Knife thugs sew own wounds so A&E won’t report them to the police”, July 5).

Having fought and been hit, young people realise it is nothing to fear and the type of violence will escalate. Having used a knife to harm once it will be easier to harm a second time.

Violence cannot be talked away so stop talking and take action. More police, tougher sentences, police who know the streets and less sympathy from do-gooders. Then move on to find and deal with the root cause of the problem. even I have had enough (“Baby Archie’s godparents to be kept secret”, July 4).

Either they are royals or they are not. They have just had their home updated at considerable expense to the taxpayer (myself included), yet I am not allowed to know who Archie’s godparents are.

We all know Archie has no title but I am sure that will change when his grandfather becomes king. Princess Anne’s children do not behave in such a petulant manner.

It is about time they realised they have to play the game.A nice photo of the christening and the names of the godparents, that’s all we ask. the local where they could complain about football, politics or anything else currently in the news, but with “hate laws” they have to be so careful about what they say in case some snowflake gets offended.

A lot of people would still go to the pub whatever the cost of the beer, but with these other problems as well it’s simply not worth it. (“Huge backing to save free TV for over-75s”, July 5).

We have moved on and have many channels, so to licence the BBC is now ridiculous. They already sell their programmes to the rest of the world, as do other channels.

However I do believe the Government should fund the BBC World Service as it is still a lifeline for many across the globe.
