Konta is lifted by the gutsy comeback of Kvitova after attack

- Neil McLeman

And I think her strength of character to come through some terrible, traumatic things.

“It is just great to see her enjoying this and being successful at it. She is an incredible player. And for her to bring that success and passion for the sport through something so terrible, it is a true honour to see.”

While Kvitova is into the fourth round for the first time since 2014, Konta is aiming to recreate her run to the last four in 2017.

Her third-round victory over Sloane Stephens – where she battled back from a set down – was her best performance at Wimbledon since beating then world

No2 Simona Halep in the 2017 quarter-finals.

And as she struggled to find her game, she was lifted by the supportive fans on No 1 Court.

“Nothing quite beats playing on home soil in front of a home crowd,” said the French Open semi-finalist, who has made the second week at consecutive Grand Slams for the first time.

“There is always going to be an extra desire and want from everyone watching and rooting for you.

“It is an incredibly special position to be in as a professional athlete. To play in front of a home crowd and them to witness a match and that match.

“I enjoy playing on big stages, I enjoy playing in front of crowds and that is across all our tournaments wherever they are in the world.

“I have been playing on home soil for a lot of years now and obviously going deep into the tournament in 2017 here at Wimbledon, that is always going to give me experience and it is always going to help me learn from what it felt like to be out there.

“I am just really looking forward to playing another great match against a great opponent. Looking forward to having another go.” Kvitova has a 3-1 winning record against Konta but they are level on grass. And the Czech did not play a grass-court warm-up event after suffering an arm injury in Paris and she has played her way back into form at her favourite tournament.

“My serve was a big help,” Kvitova said after her third-round win. “I think when I play longer, it’s just getting better.” for also great enjoy coming up to the last episode of the second season.

“It is good. The acting is just incredible. Jodie Comer is unbelievable.

“I have never seen her in anything else but in this role she is so amazing.

“It is quite psychotic. We don’t binge watch – we watch one, max two a day. It depends.”

Killing Eve creator Phoebe Waller-Bridge was a guest in the Royal Box last week.

But Konta’s beloved pet dog Bono is not watching her Wimbledon matches

on TV. “I don’t think so because the TV turns off automatically after a period of time,” she said. “Jackson leaves him as close to the match as possible and he leaves quite soon after the match. “He can’t operate the remote control yet – we are still waiting for his thumbs to grow.

“He used to get excited for my voice via Facetime but he has learned that just because he hears my voice, it doesn’t mean that I am there.

“So now he is not bothered. He brings very good perspective.

“My boyfriend just sent me a photo of him lying across him like lounged out.

I think he’s a dog of leisure.”

Andy

Murray, who is still in the mixed doubles with Serena Williams, is definitely not watching

Love Island.

“I haven’t watched one minute of it – I hate that show,” said the Scot.

“I watched it last year or a couple of years ago. “It’s more my wife who would watch it. When it’s on, it’s on in the background. But I don’t watch it.”
