ROYALS AT PLAY...

- By Richard Palmer Royal Correspondent

ROYAL baby Archie made his first public outing with mum Meghan yesterday to watch his father play polo.

Planting a tender kiss on her son’s head, the Duchess of Sussex joined the Duchess of Cambridge and her children to watch princes William and Harry in the King Power Royal Charity Polo Day.

It was a rare chance for Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis to spend time with their cousin, although two-month-old Archie slept through much of the action.

On the pitch, William, 37, and 34-year-old Harry played on opposing sides in a polo match in memory of the late Leicester City Football Club owner Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha.

The Thai billionaire philanthropist died in a helicopter crash at his team’s stadium last October.

The royal brothers raised more than £1million for 15 of their favourite charities in what is expected to be their only scheduled charity polo event this summer due to their parental commitments.

Picnic

William’s team won the match 7-6 at Billingbear Polo Club, Berkshire.

Wearing a flowing pink LK Bennett dress and Castaner wedges, Kate, 37, was kept busy chasing after little Louis and scooping him up when he threatened to get into too much mischief.

The one-year-old prince was dressed in a navy polo shirt, green shorts and buckled shoes for his big day out.

Meghan, who stood beside Kate and the children, wore a £545 khaki maxi dress by Lisa Marie Fernandez and gold aviator sunglasses by Givenchy.

George, who will be six on July 22, played with a polo mallet at one stage but later settled on a game of football with four-year-old Charlotte who was also seen dancing about.

Later the children enjoyed a picnic with their mother, perched on the back bumper of their family car.

ROYAL security was under review last night after an intruder scaled the front gates of Buckingham Palace while the Queen slept inside.

Recalling Michael Fagan’s infamous 1982 break-in, a 22-year-old suspect climbed over the railings and dropped to the ground at about 2am yesterday.

Dressed in dark clothing, he dashed towards a door and banged on it in an apparent bid to get into the Palace.

Copycat

Sources confirmed the intruder was inside the Palace perimeter for around four minutes before he was challenged by protection officers and taken into custody.

The incident has triggered a security review and the results will be shared with senior Royal Household officials as well as Scotland Yard chiefs.

A Yard spokeswoman said: “Officers have arrested a man on suspicion of trespass, contrary to section 128 of the Serious Organised Crime and Police Act 2005. The man was not found in possession of any offensive weapons and the incident is not being treated as terrorist-related.

“He remains in custody at a central London police station.”

It is understood that the 93-year-old monarch was the only member of the Royal Family sleeping at the Palace on Tuesday night.

Prince Philip was on the Sandringham estate in Norfolk and other members are believed to have moved out because of a £369million refurbishment of the Queen’s official residence.

There were fears the suspect was trying to copy Fagan who breached Palace security 37 years ago and chatted to the Queen while sitting on her bed.

An insider said the intruder “was determined to get inside the Palace and was banging down the doors but, thank goodness, this time everything was locked up.

“This intruder got into the Palace almost 37 years to the day since Michael Fagan ended up getting inside the Queen’s bedroom. There is a genuine theory and very real fear that he could have been launching a copycat operation.”

It is understood the suspect’s mental health was being assessed.

Insiders stressed security has “greatly improved since the Fagan incident” and said the man was detained quickly.
