- By David Pilditch

DAVID Beckham enjoyed a day out in the Royal Box at Wimbledon yesterday. – and invited his mother along as a special birthday treat.

The former England football captain was among VIP spectators on the biggest day of the tournament so far.

Beckham sat with mother Sandra – who turned 70 two weeks ago – as they witnessed an awe-inspiring Serena WIlliams power her way into her 11th Wimbledon final.

She executed a devastating 6-1, 6-2 win over Czech Barbora Strycova, who beat Britain’s Johanna Konta in the previous round.

Beckham, 44, looked as dapper as ever at the All England Club, dressed in a blazer, a blue and white striped shirt and charcoal trousers.

He completed the suave look with a gingham pocket square and a pair of sunglasses. Last month he posted an image of himself as a youngster with Sandra on Instagram. He wrote: “Happy birthday to the most amazing mum x.”

Other celebrities in the Royal Box included actress Claire Foy, 32, who played the young Queen in Netflix series The Crown.

Boris Becker told yesterday how he had paid a high price for fame as his treasured tennis mementos were sold for £687,000 to help pay off his debts.

The tennis legend said he was “haunted” by mistakes he had made in his life but insisted he was a “fighter”.

The top earning item was a full-size sterling silver replica of his 1989 US Open trophy, which sold for £150,250.
