And here’s my selfie with the Queen

- By Jo Riley

WHO can blame surgeon Jason Ali for being proud of this “selfie” phone portrait of himself, taken showing him on the ward in his operating kit.

Especially as interest is added by the smiling woman in the background... the Queen.

Jason took the snap when she visited the new location of the Royal Papworth Hospital, in Cambridgeshire, on Tuesday.

Jason, a specialist registrar in cardiothoracic surgery at the hospital, was stunned when he saw the resulting picture.

He said: “I was on the ward when the Queen visited and took the opportunity to try and get a good picture of her.

“I knew she would be walking towards me so I angled the camera for a selfie and amazingly she looked straight at the camera and smiled.”

Jason, who has worked at Papworth for three years, said: “All the staff were very excited and there was a buzz around the place.”

The Queen unveiled a plaque at the hospital, a specialist heart and lung centre, which has moved 16 miles from the village of Papworth to the Cambridge Biomedical Campus. IT MIGHT not have been Wimbledon... but the Duchess of Cornwall showed off her skills at the net yesterday by playing table tennis.

Camilla, 71, was at RAF Halton near Aylesbury, Bucks, to mark the training base’s centenary. She delighted cadets as she took part in the tennis table match, at one point lunging across the table to try to secure a point. The outing came a day after she made an appearance at The All England Club, where she watched the Centre Court action from the Royal Box.
