YOU know it’s not your day when you are run out in circumstances that can only be described as ‘nuts’.

Steve Smith had scored 85 when he was bizarrely undone attempting a quick single.

The ball looked certain to hit the Australian captain rather than the target when England wicketkeeper Jos Buttler threw at the stumps at the bowler’s end.

But, incredibly, it passed through Smith’s legs while he was running at full tilt and careered into the stumps.
