Javid: Labour leader’s threat to sue me
LABOUR leader Jeremy Corbyn threatened to sue Sajid Javid after he condemned an anti-Semitic tweet from one of his supporters, the Home Secretary said yesterday.
Mr Javid urged politicians to show greater moral leadership in the battle against the spread of extremist views.
Sources said Mr Corbyn threatened legal action after Mr Javid confronted a Holocaust denier on Twitter.
In a wide-ranging speech on countering extremism the Home Secretary said Brexit Party members were not extremists and praised the party’s leader Nigel Farage for abandoning Ukip as it lurched to the Right.
He also revealed that the controversial campaign group Cage, whose research director described Jihadi John as a “beautiful young man”, would be stripped of its right to sponsor migrant workers under tough immigration rules.
The Daily Express understands Labour sent Mr Javid a legal letter believing the Home Secretary had accused Mr Corbyn himself of being a Holocaust denier.
Mr Javid confirmed on Twitter he did not believe this was the case.
Admitting that politicians had helped fuel a rise in extremism, he said MPs need to “show moral leadership”.
Mr Javid spoke as three Labour MPs criticised Mr Corbyn’s “woeful” response to the anti-Semitism crisis.
