Heckler admits hurling ‘Nazi’ jibe at Remain MP Anna Soubry
A PROTESTER yesterday admitted harassing Remainer MP Anna Soubry after calling her a Nazi as she gave a TV interview.
James Goddard, 30, filmed himself hurling abuse at the former Tory after claiming she was a “traitor” for betraying the country’s vote to leave the EU in 2016.
During an occasionally chaotic hearing at Westminster magistrates court, Goddard admitted intent to cause Ms Soubry harassment, alarm or distress, using threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour, or disorderly behaviour. He also admitted a racially aggravated public order offence towards a police officer.
He and Brian Phillips, 55, of Erith, Kent, who admitted the harassment charge, were bailed ahead of sentencing on Monday.
Paul Jarvis, prosecuting, said Ms Soubry, now of the Change UK party, was surrounded as she made her way into the Palace of Westminster on January 7.
He said: “She found being described as a Nazi deeply offensive. It left her feeling angry.” A victim impact statement said she felt “intimidated and harassed” and “very shaken”.
Goddard refused to state his address but magistrate Emma Arbuthnot read it out as Altrincham, Greater Manchester.
