Ms Colquhoun suffered from a heart condition and arthritis. Campbell, a registered nurse of 30 years, denied assault at Gartnavel Royal Hospital, Glasgow, claiming she had been aggressive and had put herself on the floor.

He said he and a colleague had to “coax and cajole” her to go to her room, and that she was “trying to hit him with her Zimmer”.Visitor Claire Wright, 33, was so shocked she reported the incident in October 2017.

Campbell was convicted by Sheriff Mary McCrory following a trial at Glasgow Sheriff Court.

He was ordered to complete 200 hours of unpaid work, as well as being made the subject of a three-month curfew.
