Children ‘pressure’ their parents for faster internet
PARENTS are are under pressure to get faster broadband – by their children, a study reveals.
Youngsters want a fast, reliable internet connection for streaming TV services, online gaming and social media.
Almost half of parents have changed broadband provider in the past five years, with a third influenced by their child wanting a quicker speed.
In London alone, 90 per cent said a fast internet connection is important to their children.
A third of parents admitted their child “influenced” their decision to change provider.And four in 10 said their offsprings’ online usage made them feel “pressured” to have a fast connection.
The research found the average age for children to start using the web without supervision is nine, but a sixth are doing so between the ages of one and four.
The poll was commissioned by broadband provider Hyperoptic.
Managing director Charles Davies said: “Children are driving a need for ultrafast broadband, with streaming and gaming relying on fast services. With school holidays, this need is sure to increase.”
