Peerless Peaty completes a hat-trick of golds in Korea Wilby secures a one-two for Britain

qualified only third in his semi-final, with bronze medallist Yan Zibei of China one of the men to beat him.

A time of 58.46 left Wilby more than a second behind Peaty, who goes again in the 50m breaststroke in Gwangju today, but meant a first world medal for the 25-yearold from Glasgow. “I’m really happy,” said Wilby. “After the Commonwealths and

Europeans last year, this was always the next major international and the one last stepping stone towards Tokyo.

“So I’m really happy to get that silver medal, and a British one-two means an awful lot to us as well.”

Meanwhile, Australian freestyle swimmer Mack Horton refused to stand on the podium to collect his silver medal on Sunday in protest against winner Sun Yang.

The three-time Olympic gold medallist has previously served a drugs suspension and is at the centre of another doping scandal that has progressed to the Court of Arbitration for Sport.

Yesterday, Horton received a warning letter from swimming governing body FINA for his behaviour at the medal ceremony.

A statement said: “FINA has decided to send a warning letter to Swimming Australia and to athlete Mack Horton.

“While FINA respects the principle of freedom of speech, it has to be conducted in the right context.

“The matter over which Mack Horton was allegedly protesting is currently under review by CAS and therefore it is not appropriate for FINA to prejudice this hearing by commenting further.”
