Three of a kind ...sisters look like triplets

- By Lucy Laing

THESE three sisters are all six years old... but they’re not triplets. Scarlett and Aurora are twins and Isla was born just 10 months later. Mum Lynsey McMahon said: “They do look incredibly alike and are all roughly the same height. “People who know them locally just refer to them as the triplets anyway.” Lynsey, who lives with health and safety manager Chris McGeachie, 40, in Irvine, Ayrshire, added: “They have such a close bond, just like triplets do – they all stick up for each other and are incredibly loyal.”

In 2012 the couple, who each have a child from previous relationships, decided to try for a baby together. Lynsey, a nurse, said: “I’d fallen pregnant just a few weeks after trying, which was a shock in itself.

“I was lying on the scanning table and the sonographer said we were having twins. I didn’t quite believe it until I saw the two heartbeats pumping away on the screen.” The twins were born in August. Six months later, Lynsey went to have a contraceptive implant fitted but then she developed a craving. Lynsey said: “I’d been wanting to eat crushed ice, which I had in my previous pregnancy, so I did a test to make sure.

“A scan showed I was about 16 weeks pregnant. It meant that I was already pregnant when I had the implant put in.” Isla was born in July 2013, 10 months after the twins’ arrival. Lynsey added: “The midwives couldn’t believe it when I arrived to give birth again. It was hard work having three babies all under the age of one, but we managed. “And it’s nice for the girls that they are so close in age.”
