PICKS OF THE DAY

-

Cookery: Nadiya’s Time To Eat, BBC2, 8pm

Plating up a decadent meal that has been hours in the making is a truly satisfying feeling. However, modern life does not always allow for this to be possible and sometimes you need something that can be on the table in no time. Tonight, former Great British Bake Off winner Nadiya Hussain shares the recipes she relies on when she hasn’t got the energy to cook anything complicated. A naughty French toast spiced up with turmeric is the perfect feel-good fix while a tin of baked beans is the surprise ingredient in Nadiya’s family-friendly falafel burgers. In Wales, she joins busy vet Tom (left, with Hussain) during lambing season.

Soap: EastEnders, BBC1, 8pm

Stuart has been trying his best to make things up to Rainie but it is fair to say she has been a little reluctant. Well, as we can clearly see, the pair (Tanya Franks and Ricky Champ, both left) seem to be back on track this evening. An unknown lady arrives looking for Callum with heartbreaking news, while the Ahmeds’ Eid celebrations get off to a bad start when Habiba, Iqra and Adam struggle to remain civil. In other news, Kat comes clean to Kush about why Stacey and Martin fled.

Documentary: Born Famous: Mel B, C4, 10pm

A little-known fact about Spice Girl Mel B is that in her youth she worked in a pizza shop in Leeds. This evening, we see her daughter Phoenix (above, with Mel B) work a shift in the same place as part of this family-themed documentary. The youngster travels to Hyde Park in Leeds to visit the house where her mother grew up and spends time with her aunt and grandmother before learning more about the area.

Documentary: Traffic Cops, Channel 5, 8pm

Jamie Theakston (right) guides us through more motoring madness. We see a disqualified driver followed home and then chased on foot when he does a runner. Elsewhere, a routine stop-check by two officers sees one of the passengers warning them that the driver has firearms at home, and another incident sees the police dealing with a driver who claims he had just bought a bottle of beer and took a swig before being pulled over. These programmes never cease to amaze.

Crime: The Great Train Robbery: The Hidden Tapes, C4, 9pm

Tapes that have spent almost four decades under wraps see the light of day finally. This documentary goes behind the legend of the 1963 heist to uncover the true story of the crime of the century. Through tape recordings made by one of the key masterminds, the film explores the truth about the robbery. We also hear from robber Roger Cordrey’s son, Tony (above).
