Olivia crowns Os­car win with her lat­est royal role

OLIVIA Col­man looks ev­ery inch the ma­jes­tic monarch in the first footage of her as the Queen in hit Net­flix se­ries The Crown.

The Os­car-win­ning ac­tress takes over the role from Claire Foy for the third se­ries of the drama, which launches on Novem­ber 17.

Only still images had been seen of Col­man in cos­tume un­til the stream­ing ser­vice shared a 21-sec­ond video yes­ter­day, which fea­tures her dressed in a white dress, blue sash and crown. Col­man won an Os­car ear­lier this year for play­ing an­other royal, Queen Anne, in block­buster film The Favourite.

The new se­ries of The Crown will cover the pe­riod from 1964 to 1977 and will see Tobias Men­zies take over the role of the Duke of Ed­in­burgh from Matt Smith.

Movie vet­eran He­lena Bon­ham Carter will take over as Princess Mar­garet from Vanessa Kirby. Josh O’Con­nor plays Prince Charles, Erin Doherty ap­pears as Princess Anne, Marion Bai­ley is the Queen Mother and Ja­son Watkins stars as Prime Min­is­ter Harold Wil­son.

Killing Eve writer Emer­ald Fen­nell will play Camilla Shand, now the Duchess of Corn­wall.

Ear­lier this year, it was con­firmed Emma Cor­rin will play Lady Diana Spencer in the fourth se­ries of the drama, which is set to be filmed this year.
