Olivia crowns Oscar win with her latest royal role
OLIVIA Colman looks every inch the majestic monarch in the first footage of her as the Queen in hit Netflix series The Crown.
The Oscar-winning actress takes over the role from Claire Foy for the third series of the drama, which launches on November 17.
Only still images had been seen of Colman in costume until the streaming service shared a 21-second video yesterday, which features her dressed in a white dress, blue sash and crown. Colman won an Oscar earlier this year for playing another royal, Queen Anne, in blockbuster film The Favourite.
The new series of The Crown will cover the period from 1964 to 1977 and will see Tobias Menzies take over the role of the Duke of Edinburgh from Matt Smith.
Movie veteran Helena Bonham Carter will take over as Princess Margaret from Vanessa Kirby. Josh O’Connor plays Prince Charles, Erin Doherty appears as Princess Anne, Marion Bailey is the Queen Mother and Jason Watkins stars as Prime Minister Harold Wilson.
Killing Eve writer Emerald Fennell will play Camilla Shand, now the Duchess of Cornwall.
Earlier this year, it was confirmed Emma Corrin will play Lady Diana Spencer in the fourth series of the drama, which is set to be filmed this year.
