Singer George’s home sells for £3.4m

- By Tom Bryant and Ashleigh Rainbird

GEORGE Michael’s heartbroken family has sold the house where the singer died.

Land Registry documents show Mill Cottage in Goringon-Thames, Oxon – where George was found unresponsive in his bedroom on Christmas Day 2016 – was sold to a married couple for £3.4million last month.

Lawyer John Reid, who acts for George’s family and the singer’s estate, said: “We can confirm that we have now sold George’s former home in Goring-on-Thames. It was a place that he loved, not least for the privacy afforded him.”

A neighbour confirmed the new family had moved in within the last two weeks, but a woman who answered the door had nothing to add.

George was found dead by his thenpartner Fadi Fawaz. The singer left that it £97.6million and the bulk of his estate to sisters Yioda and Melanie.

Earlier this year, his family pleaded with fans to stop leaving tributes outside George’s former homes in both Goring and Highgate in north London. At the weekend, the path outside the cottage was clear. But fans are still visiting the 16th century property. One, Linda Allen, said on a forum: “We met the lovely man that has bought the cottage.

“He has promised he will take good care of it.”

Others are less happy. Fan Dawn Terry said: “I was hoping for a museum of some sort and all money raised going to George’s charities.”

The Highgate property is reportedly being rented out. Fawaz has been living in another of the late singer’s properties in Regents Park, and recently was arrested for allegedly smashing it up.
