Defiant Walsh isn’t fazed by Dons boos

-

The Champions League winners take on Europa League title-holders Chelsea in the UEFA Super Cup at Besiktas Park in Istanbul tomorrow night.

And defender Gomez insists the Reds are hungry to get their hands on more silverware after losing to Manchester City on penalties in the Community Shield.

He said: “I think [the Community Shield] would have been nice but we lost the way we did, which was unfortunate. That just made us even hungrier to get our hands on a piece of silverware again.

“That’s going to be our aim this year – just to get as much silverware as possible.”

The Reds are now one of the teams to beat with a target on their backs, but Gomez insists they have to keep striving for more.

He said: “The main thing in our minds is that we still see ourselves as underdogs – we few weeks”. He said: “Not too cool. I don’t want to make now an exact prognosis. I saw six weeks and stuff like this but I’d like to wait a little bit. But he is not in for the next few weeks.”

He will miss the UEFA Super Cup final against Chelsea tomorrow as well as Liverpool’s next three league games. Adrian will continue to deputise. MK DONS star Joe Walsh has told the Wimbledon boo boys: “Your abuse doesn’t bother us”.

They make their latest trip to Kingsmeadow in the Carabao Cup tonight for one of English football’s biggest grudge matches

– and they are expecting a hot reception.

In 2004, the original Wimbledon were moved to Milton Keynes before

Vchanging their name to MK Dons while a new AFC Wimbledon club was soon formed by disgruntled fans.

And defender Walsh, 27, knows exactly what to expect.

He said: “We’re expecting abuse. We will take it on the chin and play our normal game.

“You hear the abuse, but it doesn’t faze you. It’s football isn’t it – you know what you’re going to get.”
