‘The Beast’ is a leader says Pogba
United scored 80 or more goals in a season nine times during Alex Ferguson’s reign, and 70 or more 17 times. In contrast, they have not managed more than 68 goals in any of the six campaigns since he left, recording the two lowest-scoring seasons in their Premier League history and five of their seven lowest. (17) (12) (11) (17) (16) (13) PAUL POGBA has nicknamed Harry Maguire ‘the Beast’ after the £80million star’s imperious Manchester United debut.
Maguire, below, was a rock at the heart of United’s defence as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side launched their Premier League campaign with a 4-0 thumping of Chelsea.
The England international became the world’s most expensive defender with his move from Leicester, and United team-mate Pogba said: “I call him ‘the Beast’. Honestly, as you saw, he was really impressive. He is a leader. He fits right in with us in training. “We talked about controlling the defence well and he has a good understanding with Victor Lindelof. It was a very good match to start with from the whole team.”
Gary Neville, the former United skipper and defender, also praised Maguire. He tweeted: “I loved Maguire yesterday. Top CBs [centre-backs] don’t sweat, look calm, don’t spend time on their backsides, win headers, are composed on the ball, cover others and lead by example.
“It’s only early but he demonstrated all those qualities. No sign of the price tag or OT [Old Trafford] phasing him either!”
