The expectatio­ns will be understand­ably high for the man who produced a miraculous super over to help England claim their maiden World Cup trophy last month.

And back on the same ground that gave England’s one-day kings the moment of a lifetime, the 24-yearold paceman knows it could be a little tougher in the full-length format, especially with Steve Smith in ruthless form.

But if anyone is capable of taking to Test cricket with a flourish it is Archer, who is more than ready for the extra work that will come his way.

And for those such as Australian coach Justin Langer, who feel that he might find the grind of Test cricket an uncertain challenge,Archer is confident that his best will be good enough.

“What I would say is don’t expect any miracles firstly,” said Archer with a smile. “Hopefully I’m going to make my debut sooner rather than later and I’ll do what I can.

“If I get selected I’ll be over the moon, but I can’t work miracles. I’ll try to but I don’t think that’s how it might pan out. I’ll try my best and I can only give my best.

“I’m probably more ready than I’ve ever been. I’ve bowled 50 overs in one game already for Sussex and I’m usually the one bowling the most overs anyway.

“I’ve played a lot more red ball than I have white ball. I do think it’s my preferred format. Justin Langer has another thing coming.”

At least Langer will be able to watch on from the relative safety of the Lord’s balcony, while his batsmen are the ones who will have plenty coming at them at an extremely quick rate.
